Functionality and usage of VOIP Phone systems

VOIP stands for Voice Over Internet Protocol. It is a technology used to enable voice telephony over the internet. Since it is commonly in use for enabling phone calls using broadband internet, phone calls are made cheaper. This is possible due to the fact that internet has become ubiquitous and has penetrated many homes and almost all types of offices. VOIP Phone Systems use the conversion of analog sound signals of the human voice into Internet Protocol voice packets and this process is reversed at the receiver end again.

Technical details aside, the VOIP Phone systems are intelligent systems that can be interfaced with computers and laptops that have a reliable broadband internet connection. It is required here that the connection should be broadband because a certain speed of data transfer is necessary to effectively process voice signals as they are spoken. If the internet connection is faulty, it introduces vacuum, disturbance and broken words.

Most of the features available with modern telephone systems and public telephone network (those which support our so-called fixed landlines) are also present in VOIP Phone systems. Call conferencing, forwarding, hold and un-holding are available in these systems. In case an internet connection is not available, it is possible to use a Wi-Fi network to use the internet protocol. This procedure of VOIP Phone systems finds application in corporate offices. One such application is Skype.
